Recently I had the opporutnity to speak at ConnectSafetly.org’s U.S. observance of Safer Internet Day 2016 and it was AWESOME! There were a few hundred Los Angeles tweens and teens in attendance and they really were amped up about their role in the future of technology.
What I enjoyed the most was the intereactive nature of the event which got the youths involved in thinking about outcomes that thtey have control over. There was a panel of young people who brought some insightful ideas and solutions to the fore in the areas of online safety, civility and security.
You can watch below, Instagram activist Leo Sheng moderated a youth empowerment panel: Rejecting Hate, Building Resilience & Growing the Good Online. It was a powerful panel and the youth in the audience really seemed to respond very passionately to it.
I was invited to speak to the youths about technology and encourage them to create a better, safer space for all to enjoy! I got to geek out a bit, which is always fun, but it also afforded me the opportunity to touch on what really drives humanity forward and that isn’t technoogy but the people creating technology. Human technology! You can check that speech out below.
